Overview

Inspections may also result in risk recommendations. Depending on the type, these can be Critical or Advisory:

  • Critical: High-risk conditions must be corrected within 30 days. Non-compliance may affect the policy. The insured has 30 days from receipt of recommendations to comply and avoid cancellation.

  • Advisory: Compliance is not required to retain coverage, but the carrier may choose to enforce it mid-term or at renewal. These lower-risk items are recommended to reduce overall risk exposure.

  • Annual fire alarm testing

  • Annual fire extinguisher servicing

Direct Notice of Cancellation

Some recommendation findings will result in immediate cancellation, or a Direct Notice of Cancellation (DNOC). This means that a 30-day NOC will be issued upon receipt of the risk report.

Common reasons for a DNOC include but are not limited to:

  • Ongoing renovation

  • Pre-existing damage

  • Prohibited electric breaker panels, including Challenger, Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Pushmatic, and Square D Panels from 1988, 2004, 2006 & 2022

  • Prohibited electrical types include fuses, aluminum wiring, knob and tube wiring, and pig-tailed wiring

  • Vacancy (not applicable to vacant building policies)

  • Year built prior to 1930 (specific to Vave)

If your client receives a DNOC, contact your Service Representative to discuss next steps and alternative coverage options.
